Urbana is a 6-story residential apartment building by H.G. Fenton located in the East Village district of Downtown San Diego. GMP designed the streetscape directly in front of the project, along 10th Avenue, in conformance with CCDC guidelines to complement the area’s strong urban appeal. GMP also provided a clean modern landscape design for the ground level central courtyard and a rooftop deck.

The central courtyard features include: burnished block masonry raised planters that provide privacy for residential patios; a cascading water feature with stainless steel; travertine and glass tile accents to provide relaxing noise and movement to the space; built in BBQ’s with glass tile backsplash and wood cabinetry; built in seating; and a large vertical living wall designed to screen unsightly views to existing buildings.

The rooftop deck features include: precast concrete planters, concrete paver system on pedestals, built in BBQ counter complete with BBQ, stove, wine fridge, sink, kegorator and bar height counter; vertical living wall to screen views to mechanical equipment; raised spa with views to Petco Park in the distance; lounge area with firepits; and outdoors TV’s.

GMP’s involvement included conceptual design, 3D renderings, construction documents, site observation and construction administration.
