Archstone Gateway is an 840-unit luxury apartment community located in the platinum triangle, in the cities of Anaheim and Orange, California. The community features a design theme based on the urban character in which it is located. This project provided several exciting challenges for GMP. First, the location, on the boundary of two municipalities, allowed us to carefully coordinate project amenities, circulation, public services, and drawing packages between municipalities. Second, the project’s prime location at an entrance and exit to Interstate 5 and Anaheim stadium tasked us with balancing the need to thread this community into the existing urban fabric and provide private open spaces in which the residents could recreate away from this active urban center. Carefully designed amenities, common areas, pedestrian walkways, and recreational areas seamlessly thread these public and private needs and make the architecture and landscape a part of this urban fabric.
Gateway amenities include a three pool and spa courtyards, outdoor barbeque and kitchen areas at each, extensive decorative paving areas, exercise course, and eight distinctive courtyards ranging from passive sculpture gardens, to naturalistic interpretive gardens, to formal plazas and palm tree bosques. Water features located throughout the property were designed to enhance the modern urban design theme, draw potential residents to the grand entry court, and provide calming white noise. GMP’s involvement included providing project theming, design, and construction document services.
